Consultation has concluded
Council is preparing to upgrade Fitzroy Park in Wardell from a local playground to a district playground in accordance with Ballina Shire Council's Playground Upgrade and Management Plan 2022.
The existing playground area includes public toilets, BBQ and picnic shelters, drinking fountain, playground equipment, shade structure and swings. Fitzroy Park also has natural and functional features that include large, established and significant trees (such as the protected Coastal Cypress), overland stormwater swales, vehicle access and tennis courts.
The new playground design will need to work within the existing features and constraints of the site as well as the typical levels of embellishment outlined in the Playground Upgrade and Management Plan for a district playground.
District playground definition
As stated in the Playground Upgrade and Management Plan, a District level playground will typically include:
3-4 items of play equipment
shade structures and natural shade
infrastructure such as seating, landscaped gardens, picnic settings and public amenities
budget of $150,000 - $250,000 to construct the playground.
Have Your Say
We are seeking input from the community and particularly children and youth on what types of play equipment, features and themes you would like to see included in the new playground at Fitzroy Park so that we can redesign the play space in response to community needs and expectations.
If you have any other ideas for the future of Fitzroy Park, please let us know in the Ideas tab below.
