Ballina Shire Council has developed a Streetscape Master Plan for Newrybar village to improve its public spaces, balancing community aspirations identified during a collaborative design process in late 2024 and early 2025.

The community-led vision of the master plan is:

Newrybar will be a welcoming and vibrant village where character, community, and creativity flourish. An intimate, walkable destination that honours its artisanal spirit, local produce, and deep connection to the natural landscape.

The Draft Master Plan outlines five key place values that reflect what the community loves about Newrybar:

  • Authentic village charm
  • Memorable artisanal experiences
  • Home grown produce and flavours
  • Honouring the Big Scrub and connection to Country
  • Fostering a connected community.

A key feature of the Newrybar Streetscape Master Plan is a change to the vehicle traffic movement on Old Pacific Highway between Brooklet Road and Hinterland Way to one way. A reduced speed limit in this section is also proposed. This would create space within the road corridor for a continuous footpath on both sides of the road, seating, additional shade trees and opportunities for pedestrian priority crossing areas.

The master plan was adopted by Council on 24 July 2025.

No funding or grants have been secured at this stage for implementation of any works. However, the master plan is a valuable tool to support Council to seek funding to make the community’s aspirations a reality.
