This project was open for consultation from 5 December 2023 to 19 January 2024. Consultation has now concluded.
This project is now at the development assessment stage and will go through the appropriate consultation as part of DA process. For more information visit Ballina Shire Council's DAs online portal.
Sharpes Beach is a key link in the Coastal Recreational Walk connecting Ballina to Lennox Head and attracts locals and visitors to this beautiful stretch of coastline. Council has received a grant under the NSW Government's Regional Tourism Activation Fund for an upgrade to the Sharpes Beach Car Park.
This upgrade will provide essential infrastructure and embellishments that will improve the overall visitor experience and accessibility of Sharpes Beach and the popular Coastal Recreation Path.
Sharpes Beach Car Park is located partly on private land, partly on Crown land and partly road reserve.
The proposed upgrades to the car park include:
- 83 formalised car parking spaces (including three for persons with disability and four suitable for long vehicles)
- Accessible toilet and shower facilities
- Accessible viewing deck
- Enclosed storage space for Surf Lifesaving
- Landscaping and drainage improvements
- Tree removal and restored vegetation areas
- Removal of the existing Surf Lifesaving observation tower.
Overflow carpark areas are shown on the concept plan for possible future expansion subject to funding.

Exhibition period: Tuesday 5 December 2023 to Friday 19 January 2024.
