Council considered all submissions at the Commercial Services Meeting on 5 August 2024, and resolved to receive a further report to consider options to increase car parking and reduce the concentration of the development. Ballina Shire Council is looking to improve diversity in the residential housing market and recently resolved to commence the design process for housing options on Council owned land held on Dundee and Elsa Avenues in Wollongbar.

The Wollongbar Housing Project aims to address the growing housing needs of our community through the development of medium-density housing options. This project represents a significant opportunity to promote diversity, sustainability, and inclusivity in our region.

The proposed development will feature housing options including one, two, three, and four-bedroom dwellings, to provide quality accommodation to meet the needs of our community.

Local consultants have been appointed to undertake the planning and design process for stage one of the project (five lots) which delivers 15 dwellings and 17 garage spaces. The dwellings comprise of 2 x four-bedroom townhouses, 9 x three-bedroom townhouses, 1 x one-bedroom unit, 2 x two-bedroom units, and 1 x three-bedroom unit. Planning, design and approvals are the first step in the overall development process.

There are still many decisions to be made, including planning and construction approvals, and selecting construction partners. We are committed to engaging with the community throughout the project's development to ensure that it aligns with the needs and aspirations of our community.
