Shaws Bay Coastal Management Program
Consultation has concluded
Shaws Bay is a coastal embayment with high ecological, social, and economic value. Balancing and protecting these values is a high priority for Ballina Shire Council, which highlights a need for ongoing strategic management.
Council prepared a Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for Shaws Bay in 2015 and has been progressively implementing many of the actions from that plan, with most actions now completed.
Due to changes in legislation, and the growing need to address future issues such as climate change, a new Coastal Management Program (CMP) will be developed for Shaws Bay. Council will transition the existing CZMP into a CMP in accordance with the Coastal Management Act 2016 and the NSW Government Coastal Management Framework.
Council has appointed Ballina-based Hydrosphere Consulting to develop the first stage of the CMP; a Scoping Study that will review work undertaken to date; consult with the community; and provide a clear path to implement future stages of the Coastal Management Program.
