Dogs and cats are an important part of many households across Ballina Shire. Council also has a responsibility to manage companion animals in a way that supports responsible pet ownership, community safety, shared public spaces and the protection of our local environment and wildlife.
Council has reviewed its Companion Animals Management Plan, which guides how we manage companion animals across the Shire. The draft plan covers areas including off-leash dog exercise areas, education and responsible pet ownership, Ranger patrols and enforcement, dogs in public places, and protecting native wildlife.
We want to hear from you. Whether you own a pet or not, your feedback will help us understand what is working well, where improvements could be made and what matters most to our community.
Your feedback will be considered before the draft Plan is finalised and presented back to Council.
To share your feedback, please complete the survey below by Friday 30 October 2026.
