Consultation has concluded
Ballina Shire Council has prepared TWO draft Development Servicing Plans (DSPs) for:
- Water Supply Infrastructure
- Wastewater and Recycled Water Infrastructure.
The draft DSPs were publicly exhibited in August 2023. These plans have since been revised to incorporate feedback and are now being re-exhibited.
Under the Local Government Act 1993 and Water Management Act 2000, Council can levy developer charges for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
These plans outline the charges applicable to this infrastructure in Ballina Shire, following the 2016 Developer Charges Guidelines for Water Supply, Sewerage, and Stormwater issued by the Minister for Land and Water Conservation.
Objectives of the DSPs:
- Provide adequate water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure for new developments.
- Establish a fair and comprehensive strategy for assessing, collecting, and accounting for contributions.
- Avoid placing the financial burden of new infrastructure on the existing community due to future development.
- Ensure transparency and financial accountability in the assessment and administration of the DSPs.
