At it’s August 2025 Ordinary meeting, Council resolved to put on public exhibition it’s draft Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) for community feedback.

The LSPS is a 20-year overarching strategic planning document that sets the long-term vision and direction for a broad range of land use planning and related matters. It identifies Ballina Council’s planning priorities and includes actions that will form the basis for future planning and growth in the shire, having regard to a range of current and anticipated economic, social and environmental matters.

The LSPS was first adopted by Council in 2020 and there is a statutory requirement to review it within 7 years. It must also be consistent with the North Coast Regional Plan 2041 and Council’s Community Strategic Plan.

The draft LSPS (2025) contains updated housing, demographic and growth data and identifies where future residential and employment areas will be considered over the next 20 years. It also reflects a range of other Council policies and strategies including infrastructure delivery, open space and recreation, biodiversity, climate change and natural disaster planning.

The Draft Local Strategic Planning Statement, a summary document and associated maps are attached.
