Consultation has concluded. Submissions closed 5 June 2023.
Our community lies at the heart of everything we do. As we tackle the challenges for growth, we prioritise the needs of our community. While we aim to address a wide array of requests, our available resources need to be used efficiently and responsibly.
Our Draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan 2024/2025 - 2027/2028 provides key actions and services for the 2024/25 financial year, a summary of our major capital works and our financial details for the years ahead.
These plans are vital as they outline how we will resource and maintain the services and infrastructure that impacts our daily lives, including water, wastewater, waste management, open spaces, footpaths and drainage.
You are invited to have your say on these plans. Make a submission using the feedback form below.
Join the General Manager at a Community Information Session at Wardell Memorial Hall on Wednesday 15 May 2024. If you are unable to make it in person, please view the presentation video on this page.

Share Are the council going to mark parking bays appropriately in streets such as Tamar and Grant Sts? High traffic areas and because the bays are not defined people park in any position making it harder for anyone else to get a park. For example, at Grant St Clinic there's only one Disabled park and is usually taken. In front of the Purple House clinic there's a park big enough for 2 cars but it isn't marked as such. People park in the centre taking up the whole area. Several times I have had my 94yr old mother who's on a wheelie walker where I have to illegally park to get her and the walker out of the car, leaving her on the side walk while I look for a park. Perhaps this area could be made into 2 disabled parking??? on Facebook Share Are the council going to mark parking bays appropriately in streets such as Tamar and Grant Sts? Nichrose asked over 1 year agoWe understand the importance of providing accessible parking options, especially for individuals with mobility challenges.
Council is currently undertaking a Ballina CBD Parking Study. The study report will be presented to Council in the agenda for the July Council meeting.
In response to this reporting, it is expected Council will endorse the public exhibition of the study, including calling for submissions.
The issues you raise are matters considered in the study and staff are developing cost estimates to enable Council to consider whether or not it can proceed with a range of suggested CBD parking improvements.
The exhibition of the study will be an opportunity for Council to consider its priorities for these improvements.

Relating to Connected Community, CC3.1 - Implement Ageing Plan: Has a Senior's Advisory Group been established? Thankyou.
lynnyp asked over 1 year agoAt this time, we have not implemented a Senior Advisory Group as part of the Ageing Plan. Our Ward Committees serve as a platform for seniors to voice their opinions, share their ideas, and raise concerns or issues. You can find more information about our Ward Committees at: ballina.nsw.gov.au/council-committees
We will keep the community informed if there are any developments or changes regarding the establishment of a Senior Advisory Group.

Bollards need to be put in place on the shop side opposite the park in the laneway access. The vulnerability of pedestrians and diners is of great concern. Should a driver have a medical episode or try to avoid another vehicle, could be disastrous. Janette Stevenson asked over 1 year agoIt is difficult to find sites for these types of facilities as they have many constraints or issues that arise, and after an exhaustive search, Council decided that this site was the best option for the two facilities.
Site plans were developed to assess a range of issues regarding how the facilities could successfully operate together and this assessment included consideration of traffic and parking matters.
The RFS facility has development consent. Traffic and parking were further assessed as part of this consent process. The information presented in the development application considered the site relationships between the two facilities.
The Preschool facility will only proceed after it also achieves development consent.

When will the drain in Richmond Street Wardell be cleared? When will the speed limit along River Drive be reduced to 60 kilometres per hour?
Jeanette asked over 1 year agoThe Richmond Street drain clearing project at Wardell commenced early this month and is forecast to be completed during June 2023.
Local Councils in New South Wales do not set, manage or assess and design speed limit zones, these are handled by Transport for NSW (formerly known as RMS, RTA or DMR). Submissions for requesting speed zone reviews should made to Transport for NSW.

Share We are aware that council have been completing much needed repair works on roads and laneways on Ballina island as part of the federal and state governments funding. Our only access laneway to our home in Camden Lane is heavily deteriorating and is in dire need of being resealed after last years extensive wet weather and flooding. On numerous occasions council have been out to fill potholes, but the lane substrate is so unstable that the maintenance works do not hold in place. Can you please inform when we will see Camden Lane resealed so that we maintain a safe sealed access to our home. Like other recent laneway re-sealing works completed close by, we prefer smooth Bitumen, so that we don’t have loose blue metal stones being thrown from car tires at our children, houses and fences. Matt Markham-Lee asked over 1 year agoAs you have noted there is a significant backlog of road repair that is needed and our road projects are assessed and prioritised to align with our annual funding allocation. For example you may have noticed the preparation work on the nearby Bond Lane with asphalt heavy patching treatment in preparation for bitumen resealing later this year. The seal on Camden Lane is over 10 years old and will be considered for bitumen resealing next year, with treatment and resealing similar to Bond Lane. In the mean time general road maintenance will continue as required.

Phillie asked over 1 year agoThank you for your question. In New South Wales, councils do not have the authority to set, manage, or design speed limits. These responsibilities lie with Transport for NSW (formerly RMS, RTA, and DMR). Councils follow TNSW instructions and designs when installing speed limit signs and lines. According to the TNSW design for Wardell Road in Meerschaum Vale, the 60-80km/h speed limit does not require pavement markings.

Paul asked over 1 year agoThe flood events of 2022 caused tremendous damage to our road network. Bentinck Street has received minor repairs since the floods but does require more significant repairs. Our Delivery Program/Operational Plan lists urban streets (page 41) to be reconstructed over the next four years. Capital Expenditure of $610,000 is allocated to Bentinck Street in 2026/27. If you would like the council to reconsider the priority and timing of this capital expenditure, please make a submission to the Delivery Program and Operational Plan | Your Say Ballina

Colin asked over 1 year agoSeveral drinking fountains are available across the Ballina Shire. These fountains include a bottle refill spout and sometimes a dog water bowl. Our drinking fountains are typically located on shared paths, in parks and near playgrounds, and in community facilities. A drinking fountain is located near the Ballina town centre in Fawcett Park, adjacent to the Kerry Saxby Walkway that skirts the river foreshore.
