Bicentennial Park Master Plan

Ballina Shire Council is preparing a Draft Master Plan for Bicentennial Park. The park is located at 150 Tamarind Drive, Ballina immediately west of Southern Cross Drive (industrial estate) and near Ballina Gardens Holiday Village.

The reserve was embellished in 1988 as a tourist rest area, on the former highway, prior to the Ballina bypass being implemented. The Reserve currently provides for disc golf, casual car parking and general public amenity with most of the land supporting woodland and wetland vegetation.

The main aim of the draft master plan is to reinforce the primary purpose of the park for the preservation of native flora and fauna, as defined by Council's Plan of Management for Community Land.

Key features of the Draft Master Plan include:

• Significant weed management and vegetation restoration.
• Retention of the existing shared pathway which connects Ballina to Cumbalum.
• Removal of the existing aged toilet block.
• Decommissioning of the existing large rest area carpark and construction of a smaller carpark closer to the road.
• Retention of the disc golf course and installation of new tees to enable a dual-tee, 18-hole course utilising existing cleared areas.
• Retention of the Gallipoli Pines.
• An observation platform at the pond and areas for environmental education.
• Picnic facilities and drinking fountain.
• Interpretative and way-finding signage.

The Master Plan was adopted on 27 February 2025.

There is currently no funding allocated for implementation of works. However, once finalised the Bicentennial Park Master Plan will inform the management framework for the park, support future investment, planning and implementation of improvement works.
